Barrats

Barrats

Barrats were taken over by Bassetts in 1966 by which time they were the largest sugar confectionery manufacturers in Britain employing 1300 people.

Established in London in1848 Barrat's became the leaders in the children's "own purchase" market, making an extensive range of 1d (penny) sweets including such perennial favourites as Sherbet Fountains and Black Jacks.

In 1999 Trebor Bassett created Monkhill Confectionery , a seperate company, to look after traditional brands like Barrat.
